As often as I am able, I make my es-Cape to Cape Cod, my favorite place on Earth. More specifically these days, North Eastham, the southeastern-most entryway to the Cape Cod National Seashore. There you will find Nauset Light Beach famous for the historical Nauset Lighthouse pictured here in a photo I shot in 2005. Equally spectacular is Eastham's Coast Guard Beach, home to Cape Cod's Coast Guard Station.

Nauset Lighthouse was in danger of falling into the ocean due to severe beach erosion back in the 1990s. At that time, a group of citizens formed the Nauset Light Preservation Society. Funding allowed the lighthouse to be moved from it's location on the edge of the ocean beach, to a location about 300 - 500 feet from the dunes, where it still stands today. Two years later, the Keeper's House was moved to the same location, and is still in regular use. The move of the lighthouse occurred in 1996, and the Keeper's House was moved in 1998. Local lore has it that the moving crew stayed at our little cottage during the process -- years before we owned the cottage. You can view photos of the events at the Nauset Light Preservation Society's web site: http://www.nausetlight.org/NLmove.htm and http://www.nausetlight.org/NLkeepers.htm

Here are some photos that I shot at Nauset Light Beach and the surrounding area.
